I love these products but I don’t really use the book. It has alot of outdoors recipes, if that’s something that interests you.

I read many reviews, good and bad, about these before purchasing, but decided to go ahead and get them since I believed I could avoid some of the problems others have had. These have been great additions to my kitchen. They are lovely, cook nicely, clean up easily, and when used in accordance with the instructions, they are just exactly what we needed for cooking eggs and other things that may stick and not cook easily with other cookware. We avoid all Teflon, so these were a great alternative to turning to Teflon coating. We also avoid trans-fat oils. The trick is to use the right amount of cooking oil (either clarified butter known as Ghee, or coconut or peanut oil, preferably), to keep eggs and such foods from sticking and clean up is a snap!

The porcelain coating is not as good as a seasoned skillet, and more care is needed for the pans. Other than that they are nice and bring a splash of color to the kitchen.

I pulled these pans our of their packaging and placed carefully on my glass stove top. All three pans have uneven bottoms! Each one rocks slightly and rattles with the lightest touch. I will probably send them back after trying one out. I suspect the rattling will cause the pan to creep across the stove top with stirring and cooking. I don’t want to risk scratching my stove top. As the other reviews have mentioned, the coating is rather thin and the imperfections in the iron poke through the finish in a few places. If I keep these pans, I will report on their performance.

This is my first ever cast iron skillets, and I gotta say, I’m sold on them. I will be buying more in the future. Love the different sizes. Easy to clean, and looks beautiful.
The only con, is that the handles do get very hot, so will need something to hold the handle if need to. But other then that PERFECT in every way!!

When I got my skillet set, it was everything I wanted & more. Color as described; ( I Got Red….BEAUTIFUL), porcelain enamel, non stick. They are heavy however & that may be a problem for some people. The only downside for me is the cleaning. They Will Spot & Can Easily Be Scratched.
You have to hand wash & dry them right away & you have to be careful of not scratching them when washing & storing. I hang my pans & these cannot touch each other or they will scratch. For the Price they are exceptional & I would recommend them.

They may be preseasoned, but they definitely need more. Eggs kept sticking, but after a good seasoning per the instructions and I am quite pleased with this item. A great value for the money.

This purchase was a big mistake. I want good quality cast iron for cooking. However, this black paint looking stuff on modern cast iron that is described as ‘pre-seasoned’ is nothing but another contaminant for our food. I have already seen too many of these in stores with the ‘pre-seasoning’ chipping and peeling off. I won’t risk cooking in these even once.
Why can we not purchase cast iron that has to be seasoned by the purchaser the old fashioned way? At least then I would know what was getting mixed in my food. I didn’t send these back to Amazon only because the shipping would have taken 2/3 of my refund. These will go in my next garage sale still in the original box and unused.
Also, I was not aware that these were Made in China until I saw the paper sticker on the bottom of one of the skillets. With all the dangerous contaminants that have made the news in the last year on products made in China I certainly do not trust that the ‘pre-season’ material is safe. If the Chinese found a way to make it cheaper with some dangerous substance they probably did it.
I did manage to find a vintage Wagner skillet of the size I need most listed on an auction site and purchased it. No ‘pre-season’ paint on that one.

These cast iron pans are heavy and appear to be of good quality except for the fact that after only two or 3 uses, I get black paint from the pan in everything I cook. I have some lodge cast iron pans and they are wonderful. Spend the extra $2 on lodge pans and you’ll love them. The smallest pan in this set is useless.

WE LOVED THE PANS!! WHAT A GREAT DEAL. THE ONLY GRIPE MY HUBBY HAS IS THAT THEY WERE NOT MADE IN THE U.S.A. THE 12″ PAN WE BOUGHT ALONG WITH THESE WAS MADE IN THE U.S.A. SO HE WAS HAPPY ABOUT THAT….LOL. GREAT DEAL!!

Cast Iron is the only cookware to use. I highly recommend this set of cast iron cookware, GREAT FOR CAMPING and everyday use in the home.
Cast Iron cookware requires “seasoning”. Washing cast iron in your dishwasher is the best way to ruin a cast iron pan. NEVER USE SOAP to clean your pans.
I bet if these reviewers that rated this product one star read the INSTRUCTIONS first they’d be happier.
If you can’t operate a cast iron pan correctly you should not be breeding children.

This three piece set of cast iron skillets is definately a great value. It meets all expectations. Items were pre-seasoned and hold up very well.

I bought this set for my wife. She uses them daily. Like the other review comment there were no instructions or manual with them. Fortunately, we know how to season and take care of cast iron…..Good value and shipped right away….

Pans are great but there were no care and use directions – luckily I have experience with cast iron or I would have been lost!
April 16th, 2010 at 9:14 am
The pans are great in that they are heavy and look to be well made. Unfortunately, they don’t look like they’ve been seasoned at all. This isn’t a problem, since I’m happy to go ahead and season them myself, but…

4 stars for the Lodge products. They are wonderful.
1 star for Amazon. The individual components can be purchased on Amazon for much cheaper than the package price. (Approximately $25 cheaper.) Amazon will not give a credit, they will require you to send the package back and reorder the individual components.
**Update**
Amazon reversed their position and decided to refund the difference. The package price has remained the same though.

The cast iron pan and dutch oven were high quality and pre-seasoned. The cookbook named “for dummies” was much more then expected. I would recommend this package to anyone
